Who were Robertson Technologies when AMO got involved?

Hamish Robertson was a final year business student when he founded his computer support company. He finished his last exam on a Friday and Robertson Technologies began trading on the Monday. Over the next few years Hamish built his business up in the Edinburgh area, moving it out of his flat and into an office with three employees. Thinking that it was time to grow, Hamish came to AMO Consulting for advice.

How did we help Hamish?

First things first, we sat down with Hamish to explore how he wanted to grow and whether franchising was right for his business. Once we were all convinced it was the correct approach we set to work. Over the following months we met with Hamish regularly to discuss the project. There are a lot of issues that you need to consider when franchising, just have a look at our ‘how to franchise your business guide’. All in we worked closely with Hamish for the best part of a year, developing the concept and perfecting the offering. Franchising is not something that you can rush into. If you do, you will make mistakes that are hard to rectify! At the end of our involvement Hamish was ready to start recruiting Robertson Technologies franchisees.

Where is Hamish now?

Hamish launched the franchise in 2009 and is now the Managing Director of an award winning provider of computer support services across the UK. He is franchisor to 6 franchisees and is on target to make this 10 by the end of the year.

One of his franchisees, David Earley, at the age of 24 is one of the UK’s youngest franchisees but is putting veterans in the shade by turning in a handsome net profit in his first year with Robertson Technologies. He had this to say about the franchise concept:
